Balance & Contrast

I haven’t always understood the meaning behind my art. For years I would struggle to come up with explanations for why I create the way I do. It is very difficult to accurately choose words in a way that tells the story I want to tell. For the most part I would rather hide behind my art and let it speak for me.
If I’m asking you to choose a life of vibrant colours and step out of what may be your comfort, then i had better step out of my own comfort as well. I will do my best to explain the nature of my art.

The simplest description is the ying-Yang. The dark and light balance of everything. I play with this concept in many ways, balance of textures, mediums, and never ending lines that disappear off the canvas. In portraits it is often subjects that are beautiful but menacing. Sometimes that balance is found using harsh letters surrounded by wild plants. Other times harmony comes from water ways that give life but can also take it. When it comes to graffiti if the location and atmosphere are a little uneasy, my contribution typically comes out as feminine and bold.

I could go on but I think you get the Idea. For my work to feel complete it must in someway depict contrast and balance.
